Call for Abstracts

The Call for Extended Abstracts is now open! A link to the abstract submittal site is provided below in the Submission Site section of this page.

When submitting an abstract, you may choose from two presentation formats--oral presentation and poster presentation--or indicate no preference.

  • Oral presentations will be 20 minutes in length (15 minutes for the presentation and 5 minutes for questions and answers).
  • Posters will be on display beginning Monday evening (set-up time) and throughout the week until end of the day on Thursday. A Poster session and reception will be held on Tuesday evening. Specific formatting guidance will be provided upon acceptance.
Manuscripts are required for both oral and poster presentations and will be 10 pages maximum including figures. Manuscripts and related discussions that take place at the Symposium are published in the proceedings.

Abstract Preparation Guidelines

The following information will be collected via the online submission form:

  • Abstract title.
  • Selection of preferred presentation format.
  • Full name (including prefix), organization, city, state, phone, and email address for all authors.
    NOTE: after adding any co-authors, you have the option of inviting them to complete their own profile. Instructions are provided within the Authors section.
  • Confirmation that your technical submission has received appropriate approval for public release from your organization or sponsor.
  • Select one of six primary topical areas as your first choice topic. May also select a second choice from the same list of six primary topical areas. Please click here to view Topical Areas for Abstract Submissions.
  • Brief summary of your abstract (2 to 3 sentences, minimum 10 words, maximum 75 words). Will be seen by reviewers and, if your abstract is accepted, will assist organizers in proper categorization and placement within the 16th IDS program. Additionally, may be used in the 16th IDS Program listing for your presentation. NOTE: This is NOT your abstract.
  • Extended abstract (see guidelines below).
  • Anticipated need, if any, for unusual audio-visual equipment other than the standard equipment provided.
  • Permission for future email communication about the International Detonation Symposium.

Extended abstracts will be submitted as a file upload.

  • Length: Extended abstracts of one to two pages (maximum) are solicited.

  • Graphics: Please include any pertinent figures or tables up to a maximum of two.

  • Acceptable File formats: MS Word or PDF.


  • Abstracts will be competitively evaluated for their application to the science of explosives and detonation.
  • Studies directly related to specific weapons systems are NOT appropriate for this symposium.


Abstracts, manuscripts, presentations, and all public discussions related to your abstract submission must be approved for unlimited distribution to the public. Please obtain the appropriate approval for public release from your organization or sponsor. When submitting your abstract, you will be asked to confirm that your technical submission is approved for Public Release with Unlimited Distribution and has been properly approved and released following all required institutional guidelines when submitting your abstract.

Studies directly related to specific weapons systems are not appropriate for this symposium.

16th International Detonation Symposium Abstract Scorecard Submission website.

If this will be your first abstract submission for the 16th IDS, please click the "Start Here" button to begin. You will be asked to create your profile as the first step. If you are returning to complete or edit a previous submission, or to submit additional abstracts, enter your email address plus the Access Key provided in the email sent from info@intdetsymp.org when you created your initial submission.
